A Jeddah cruise terminal transfer works best when it is booked to the exact passenger check-in point your cruise line names, timed from the check-in window on your cruise documents, and treated as a separate journey from your flight. Jeddah Islamic Port is a large working port, so “Jeddah port” on its own is not enough for a driver. The cruise line’s instructions decide where you go and when; the transfer simply gets you there with your luggage.
This guide is for travellers flying into King Abdulaziz International Airport to join a ship in Jeddah, and for those leaving a ship in Jeddah to catch a flight home. It covers what the port and the cruise line control, whether to fly in on sailing day or the day before, how to book the road journey with the right details, how to plan luggage, what to expect at the port, and how to arrange the pickup on disembarkation day.

What the port, the cruise line and the transfer each control
Three separate organisations shape your arrival at the ship, and it helps to know which one answers which question.
The port. Saudipedia describes Jeddah Islamic Port as the first terminal for Cruise Saudi, with the first cruise from it departing in 2021. Cruise Saudi’s Jeddah port page calls it the homeport and lists services there including security, passenger and crew services, and coordination with government agencies. In practice, the port and the authorities decide who and what enters the port area, and how.
The cruise line. Your cruise line sets your check-in time or window, the terminal or berth you report to, how luggage is handed over and what documents you need at boarding. These details can differ between sailings and between lines, so the only reliable version is the one in your own booking documents.
The transfer. A Jeddah Cabs journey is a private road journey from one place to another at a booked time. It does not give access to restricted port areas, it cannot guarantee a place at a particular door, and it does not change your boarding time. It is the link between the airport, or your hotel, and the point the cruise line tells you to go to.
Keeping those roles separate avoids booking a car to a general port label and hoping someone on the day knows which gate you need.
Why “Jeddah port” is not a destination
Jeddah Islamic Port handles cargo as well as passengers, and a general map pin for the port could put a car at an entrance that has nothing to do with cruise passengers. Before you book, get the following from your cruise line, travel agent or cruise documents:
- the name of the terminal or passenger building you report to;
- a map pin or address for passenger arrivals, if the line provides one;
- your check-in window or reporting time;
- how and where luggage is handed over;
- any instructions for passengers arriving by taxi or private car.
When you search in the transfer finder, the port is not one of the preset popular locations, so type it and then check the route summary shows the place you expect. If the name that appears is vague, add the cruise line’s own wording and any map link to the booking notes. Our short guide on rechecking the location behind a search result explains why it is worth reading the result, not just the name you typed.
Same day or the night before: the main decision
The biggest choice is whether to fly in on sailing day and go straight to the ship, or arrive earlier and spend a night in a Jeddah hotel first.
| Question | Straight from the flight to the ship | Night in a Jeddah hotel first |
|---|---|---|
| Journeys to book | One: airport to port | Two: airport to hotel, then hotel to port |
| Effect of a late or delayed flight | Delay eats directly into the time before check-in closes | Delay affects only your evening |
| How you arrive at check-in | Straight off a flight, possibly overnight | Rested, with time to repack |
| Luggage | Hold bags go straight into the car and on to the port | Bags go to the hotel and are loaded again next morning |
| Flight number | Needed for the airport journey | Needed for the first journey only |
| When it suits | Short-haul flights with a wide margin before check-in | Long-haul or overnight flights, families, older travellers |
The case for the night before
Your cruise documents may advise against arriving on sailing day; if they do, take that seriously. Whether a ship can wait for a late passenger is the cruise line’s decision, not the driver’s. If your flight is long, arrives overnight, or has a connection somewhere else first, a hotel night in Jeddah turns a tight connection into a relaxed morning.
The hotel night also gives you time to sort out anything that went wrong on the flight, such as a delayed bag. For a hotel stay, book the airport leg in the same way as any airport arrival; our page on transfers from Jeddah Airport to your hotel covers that journey. Then book the hotel-to-port journey separately, timed from the check-in window.
When same day can work
Flying in on sailing day can make sense if the flight is short, lands well before your check-in window opens, and you are comfortable with the risk. If you choose it, build the transfer around the scheduled landing time and include your flight number, so the booking team can see the arrival. Ask your cruise line what happens if you are delayed, and check what your travel insurance covers, before you decide.
Booking the airport to cruise ship in Jeddah
The booking itself follows the normal Jeddah Cabs steps, with a few details that matter more than usual.
Notice and timing
Online bookings need at least 48 hours’ notice before pickup. A cruise is usually booked months ahead, so there is no reason to leave the transfer to the last few days. Book once your flight times and cruise check-in window are confirmed.
The pickup time is in Saudi local time. For the airport journey, the pickup time is normally based on your flight’s scheduled arrival; enter your flight number at checkout so the booking team can match the booking to your flight. For a hotel-to-port journey, work back from the start of your check-in window, leaving room for loading luggage and for city traffic. We do not give drive times, because they vary by hour and day; ask your hotel or the booking team if you are unsure.
Party, luggage and vehicle
Enter every adult, child and infant, and every large case and cabin bag. The results show only vehicle classes that pass the capacity check for your party and luggage. If you need an infant seat, child seat or booster, or a vehicle suited to a wheelchair user, add it in the search so it is confirmed for the vehicle. The guide to seats and bags in the results explains how to read the capacity labels.
Booking notes
Use the notes to give the driver what the route summary cannot:
- the cruise line and ship name;
- the terminal or passenger building name, exactly as your documents give it;
- your check-in window;
- a mobile number that will work in Saudi Arabia, and a second contact if possible;
- anything practical, such as a wheelchair, a pushchair or a heavy trunk.
Payment and confirmation
Jeddah Cabs may take only a deposit online, with the balance paid in cash to the driver. The checkout shows both amounts, so note the cash figure and carry riyals. Each journey has a minimum booking value equivalent to £40.
Payment secures a provisional request. The booking team updates the status within 1 to 12 hours, and the journey is booked only when your account shows it as Confirmed. The how it works page sets out each step.
Luggage on a cruise trip
Cruise travellers often carry more than a normal holiday load, and the vehicle class must fit the bags as well as the people. These are the classes and their capacity, with example models “or similar”:
| Vehicle class (example model, or similar) | Seats | Large bags | Cruise party it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Economy (Toyota Camry class) | 4 | 2 | A couple with one large case each |
| Business and Executive | 4 | 3 | A couple or three friends with a spare case |
| Hyundai Staria (VIP van) | 6 | 2 | Six people with no more than two large cases |
| Premium SUV (Chevrolet Tahoe) | 6 | 4 | Four adults with a large case each |
| GMC Yukon XL | 7 | 6 | A family of five or six with full luggage |
| Hyundai H1 (family van) | 7 | 6 | Seven people with six large cases |
| Toyota Hiace | 11 | 10 | Two families sailing together |
| Toyota Coaster (minibus) | 19 | 11 | A group, if large cases stay within 11 |
First, a car that seats four may not carry four people’s cruise luggage; in live tests, four adults with four large cases were offered only Premium SUV and larger. Second, the Staria carries six people but only two large bags, so it is a poor fit for a cruise party with full luggage. Count the cases honestly and let the search filter the options.
Keep a small bag with you in the car for the things you need at check-in: passports, cruise documents, any medication and a phone charger. Your large cases may be taken from you at the terminal and delivered to your cabin later, depending on the line’s process.
Worked example: the Okafor family joining a ship in Jeddah
Grace and Daniel Okafor are flying in with their two teenage children to join a Red Sea cruise. Their cruise documents give a check-in window starting at midday on the sailing date, name the passenger terminal, and advise guests not to plan flights that arrive on the day of sailing.
Their flight lands at Jeddah the evening before. They decide to follow the advice and spend one night at a hotel.
They book two journeys:
- Jeddah Airport to their hotel, on the evening they land, with their flight number at checkout. Four passengers, four large cases and four cabin bags. The search offers Premium SUV and larger; they choose a Premium SUV.
- Hotel to the cruise terminal, the next morning. They type the port, check the route summary, and paste the terminal name and the cruise line’s map link into the booking notes. They set the pickup time by working back from the start of the check-in window, allowing for breakfast, checkout and loading, and ask the hotel reception about usual morning traffic.
At checkout they see the deposit taken online and the balance due in cash to each driver, and set aside riyals for both. Both bookings show Confirmed in their account within the day.
On the morning of sailing, their car drops them where port staff direct it. The luggage goes into the cruise line’s process, and the family keep one small bag each with their documents.
Flying in that morning would have meant one booking instead of two, but a single late flight could have left them racing the check-in deadline.
Arriving at the port
Ports are secure areas. Cruise Saudi lists security services among the services at Jeddah Islamic Port, and access for vehicles and people is managed by the port and the authorities, not by the transfer company.
What this means for you:
- Follow the instructions of port and security staff. Where a car can stop, and whether it can reach a terminal door, is decided on the day. We do not promise a particular gate, entrance or drop-off spot.
- Have your documents to hand. Keep passports and cruise documents in your small bag, not packed in a case in the boot.
- Unload together. Make sure every case leaves the vehicle before the driver moves away, and check the seats and footwells for phones and small bags.
- If the driver is directed elsewhere, stay with the driver and call the cruise line’s port contact if your documents give one.
If you are planning time in Jeddah during a port call rather than joining or leaving a ship, that is a different situation; see keeping a shore visit tied to its organiser.
Disembarkation day: the Jeddah Islamic Port cruise pickup
The return is often harder to plan than the outward journey, because you may not know exactly when you will leave the ship until near the end of the voyage. Check how your cruise line handles disembarkation before you book.
Book it before you sail
Because online bookings need 48 hours’ notice, you cannot wait until the last night on board to book the pickup. Book it before you leave home, or at the latest before you sail, using the information you have:
- the disembarkation window the cruise line has published for the sailing, if it has;
- your flight time home;
- where you will be collected, taken from the cruise line’s instructions.
For a Jeddah Islamic Port cruise pickup, give the same kind of detail as for the outward trip: terminal name, the cruise line’s wording, and a map link if you have one. Add in the notes that you are leaving a ship, and that you will call or message when you are through the terminal.
Choosing the pickup time
Set the pickup for the time you expect to be out of the terminal with your bags, not the time the ship docks. If you are unsure, lean slightly later rather than earlier and tell the booking team in the notes. Included waiting time differs by vehicle class and is not currently shown in search results, so ask the booking team to confirm in writing how long the driver can wait.
If your disembarkation time changes
If the cruise line gives you a different time once you are on board, you can request a new pickup time from your account, before the pickup time, for a paid booking. The request stays pending until the booking team approves it. An approved new time carries a £5 rescheduling fee, converted into your booking currency and added to the cash you pay the driver; a rejected request costs nothing. Only the time can be changed online. The pickup place, destination, passengers and vehicle cannot, so check them carefully when you book.
Straight to the airport or a hotel first
If your flight leaves late in the day, you may prefer a hotel or a day room before flying rather than waiting at the airport. That is two journeys: port to hotel, then hotel to airport. Our article on choosing the final base at the end of a coastal trip covers the same choice from a hotel stay.
If plans change before you travel
Cruises and flights change. Knowing the rules before you pay helps you decide when to book.
- A new time on the same route. Request a new pickup time from your account, as above.
- A different place, date or party size. These cannot be changed online. Contact the booking team first, or make a new booking and send a cancellation request for the old one.
- Cancelling. Bookings are subject to our cancellation terms (free cancellation with a full refund up to 48 hours before pickup; inside 48 hours the deposit element of the price is kept) if you cancel. If Jeddah Cabs or the transport partner cancels, or cannot supply the journey, and you do not accept a suitable alternative, you receive a full refund for the affected journey. The full terms are in the cancellation and refund policy.
So book once your flight and cruise details are firm, and contact the booking team before cancelling anything.
Groups, families and travellers with extra needs
One vehicle or two. A Hiace takes 11 passengers and 10 large bags, and a Coaster minibus 19 passengers and 11 large bags. For a group that arrives on different flights, two or more separate journeys, each with its own flight number, are usually simpler than one vehicle waiting for everyone.
Children. Enter each child and infant, and add the seats you need. They are then confirmed for the vehicle.
Reduced mobility. Add the wheelchair requirement in the search and describe it in the notes, including whether the wheelchair folds. Ask the cruise line separately about assistance inside the terminal and at boarding, which the transfer cannot provide.
Checklist before you book
- Read your cruise documents for the terminal name, check-in window, luggage process and any advice on flight timing.
- Decide between same-day arrival and a hotel night first, using the table above.
- List every journey: airport to hotel or port, hotel to port, and port to airport or hotel on the way home.
- Count passengers, children, infants, large cases and cabin bags for each journey.
- Search each journey at least 48 hours ahead, and check the route summary shows the right place.
- Add your flight number at checkout for airport journeys.
- Put the terminal name, cruise line wording and map link in the booking notes, with a working phone number.
- Note the cash balance due to the driver and carry riyals.
- Wait for each booking to show Confirmed in your account.
- Keep passports and cruise documents in a small bag that stays with you in the car.
When your flight and cruise details are settled, use the Jeddah Cabs transfer finder to search the airport, hotel and port journeys, check the vehicle fits your luggage, and add the terminal details to each booking so every leg is ready before you sail.
