What King Abdullah Economic City offers a leisure visitor
Saudipedia places King Abdullah Economic City on the Red Sea coast in the Rabigh Governorate, north of Jeddah, and says it was announced in 2005. Alongside its industrial zone and King Abdullah Port, it lists residential neighbourhoods, beach resort areas and an educational zone, with leisure facilities including the Royal Greens golf course, Yam Beach, Juman Karting and marina and yacht club amenities.
A June 2025 report from the Saudi Press Agency describes the city’s beaches, green spaces and family attractions. It mentions Juman Karting’s 700-metre track, horse riding on the beach, small boat paddling, beach volleyball and swimming, Bay La Sun Marina, Juman Park, and the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club, with restaurants overlooking the sea.
The developer’s own living in KAEC page describes districts including Al Murooj, with its golf course, and Bay La Sun, with its marina, the Bay La Sun Hotel and Marina, and a marina canal promenade with restaurants and cafés.
For planning, the key point is that these places are spread across a large city. The golf club, a beach, the marina and a hotel are separate destinations, and each needs its own name in a booking.
Check access before you go
Some leisure places in KAEC may be run as clubs, resorts or ticketed attractions. Before you book the car, contact the venue to confirm that day visitors are welcome on your date, whether you need to book a tee time, a beach day pass or a table, and which entrance visitors use. Use the venue’s own address as your destination.

The plan is simple: one outward journey to the venue, one return journey from the same or another venue, and a return time you are comfortable with.
Setting the return time on a day trip
The return is the journey that shapes a KAEC day trip from Jeddah. Online bookings need 48 hours’ notice, so it must be booked before you go, with a time you choose in advance. Work it out from the venue’s closing time or your booking there, then add a margin for paying, changing and walking back to the entrance. If you are unsure, choose a slightly later time: a quiet half hour at a café is better than cutting short a round of golf.
Each vehicle class has an included waiting allowance at pickup, but it is not shown in the search results, and waiting beyond it is not a product we offer. If you think you may be late, ask the booking team to confirm in writing what applies. If your plans change, you can request a new pickup time from your account before the pickup time; an approved change carries a £5 fee.
When an overnight in King Abdullah Economic City is better
An overnight in King Abdullah Economic City is better when you want more than one thing, when you have small children or older relatives, or when you want to be at the beach in the cooler parts of the day. It also turns two long road journeys on the same day into one each day. The trade-off is the cost of a hotel and a second day away.
Jeddah to KAEC for the weekend
A weekend trip follows the overnight pattern with one more night. Plan it as a sequence of journeys:
- Jeddah hotel or home to your KAEC hotel, timed around the hotel’s check-in time.
- Any journeys inside KAEC, such as hotel to the golf club and back, each booked separately if you do not have your own car.
- KAEC hotel back to Jeddah, timed around check-out, or to Jeddah Airport if you are flying out.

Road or rail: two ways to reach KAEC
By road, door to door
A private car takes you from your Jeddah address to the exact KAEC venue, with your luggage, children’s seats and beach bags in one vehicle. It is the simpler choice for families and groups, and the only choice if your venue is not near the station.
By Haramain train, with a short transfer
Haramain High Speed Railway says its line connects five stations: Makkah, Jeddah, King Abdulaziz International Airport, King Abdullah Economic City and Madinah. That means you can take the train from Jeddah to the KAEC station and then travel on to your hotel or venue.
If you choose the train:
- Check timetables and tickets on the official Haramain railway channels for your date.
- Book the transfer from the KAEC station to your venue as its own journey, typing the station as the pickup and checking the route summary.
- Allow a margin after the train’s arrival before the pickup time, for leaving the station with bags.
- Remember the minimum booking value. Each journey has a minimum equivalent to £40, so a short station transfer may show a “Minimum booking amount” line.

Naming the place inside KAEC
“KAEC” or “King Abdullah Economic City” on its own is not a destination. The city includes an industrial zone, a port, residential districts and leisure areas. For each journey:
- Type the venue’s name, such as your hotel or the golf club, and read the route summary to check it shows the right place.
- If the result is vague, paste the venue’s address and a map link into the booking notes.
- Name the entrance the venue gives for visitors, and add any gate or reception instructions.
- Add a contact at the venue if you have one, and a mobile number that works in Saudi Arabia.
Some residential and resort areas may have their own gates and visitor procedures. Where a car may stop and who may enter is decided by the venue and on-site staff; we do not promise access beyond a gate. Worked example: the Alvarez family’s beach day
Marco and Sofia Alvarez live in Jeddah with their two children, aged six and nine. They want a Saturday at the beach in KAEC, without driving themselves.
They phone the beach venue first. It confirms day visitors are welcome that weekend, tells them to book a day pass in advance and gives the visitor entrance.
They book two journeys, eight days ahead:
- Home in Jeddah to the beach venue, mid-morning. Two adults, two children, one large cool bag and two beach bags. They add two booster seats in the search, so the seats are confirmed for the vehicle. In the notes they paste the entrance name from the venue and Sofia’s mobile number.
- Beach venue back home, late afternoon, from the same entrance.
At checkout they see the deposit taken online and the cash balance for each driver, and they set aside riyals. Both journeys show Confirmed in their account within the day.
The day goes to plan, but it is long for the younger child. Next time, they decide, they will stay a night.
Worked example: Omar and Aisha’s overnight
Omar Siddiqui and Aisha Karim want a quiet night away and a round of golf for Omar. They book a night at a KAEC hotel and a tee time for the following morning.
They book four journeys:
- Jeddah flat to the KAEC hotel, timed for check-in.
- Hotel to the golf club, the next morning, with a golf bag entered as a large bag.
- Golf club back to the hotel, after the round, to collect Aisha and the luggage.
- Hotel back to Jeddah, after a late lunch.
On the second morning, the club moves Omar’s tee time later. He requests a new pickup time for the second journey from his account. The request is approved, and the £5 rescheduling fee, converted into the booking currency, is added to the cash paid to the driver.
Packing and luggage for a day or a night away
What you carry changes the vehicle you need, so count it before you search.
- Beach gear. Cool bags, folding chairs and large beach bags take boot space. Enter bulky items as large bags, not cabin bags.
- Golf bags. A golf bag is a large bag in the search. Two golfers with clubs and overnight cases can outgrow an Economy car.
- Overnight cases. For a night or a weekend, count each suitcase as a large bag and each small backpack as a cabin bag.
- What stays with you. Keep water, sun protection, phones and chargers, any medicines and your venue bookings in a small bag that stays with you, not in the boot.

Families, older travellers and groups
Children. Enter every child and infant, and add an infant seat, child seat or booster in the search, so it is confirmed for the vehicle. A day trip with young children is a long day; an overnight often suits them better.
Older travellers. Choose a venue with shade and seating near the entrance, and a hotel with a short walk from the drop-off. Put any practical needs, such as help with bags, in the booking notes.
Wheelchair users. Add the wheelchair requirement in the search and say in the notes whether the chair folds. Ask the venue about accessible entrances and paths.
Groups. Capacity rises quickly with luggage. In live checks, four adults with four large cases were offered only a Premium SUV and larger, and five adults with five large cases only seven-seat vehicles and larger. For bigger parties, a Toyota Hiace seats 11 and a Toyota Coaster minibus 19.
Common mistakes on a KAEC trip
- Booking to “KAEC”. Name the hotel, club or beach, and check the route summary.
- Assuming day access. Confirm with each venue that day visitors are welcome and whether you need a booking.
- Leaving the return open. A return you only think about at the end of the day cannot be booked online inside 48 hours.
- Squeezing too much into one day. If the plan needs three venues, it is probably an overnight.
- Forgetting journeys inside the city. On a Jeddah to KAEC for the weekend trip, the hotel-to-golf-club leg is a booking too.
- Counting people but not bags. Beach gear and golf clubs change the vehicle you need.
Booking rules for a KAEC trip
- Notice. Online bookings need at least 48 hours’ notice before pickup, for every journey.
- Two journeys, not a round trip. The pickup and destination must differ, so a there-and-back trip is two journeys, each booked with its own time.
- Stops. You can add up to eight stops in journey order, but stops are not waiting time. A car waiting while you spend the day at the beach is not a product we offer.
- Payment and status. Payment secures a provisional request. The booking team updates the status within 1 to 12 hours, and a journey is booked only when it reads Confirmed.
- Deposit and cash. Jeddah Cabs may take only a deposit online (30% for a single journey, 40% for a multi-leg booking and 50% for a return), with the balance paid in cash to the driver. The checkout shows both amounts.
- Minimum value. Each journey has a minimum booking value equivalent to £40.
- Changes. Only the time can be changed online, through a request in your account; an approved change carries a £5 fee. Place, destination, passengers and vehicle cannot be changed online.
- Cancelling. Bookings are subject to our cancellation terms (free cancellation with a full refund up to 48 hours before pickup; inside 48 hours the deposit element of the price is kept) if you cancel, including if a venue closes or bad weather spoils a beach day.
